The story Collalto, namely the facts that led to the restitution of lands confiscated by the Italian State to the noble family from Treviso in the second decade of last century, the historical backdrop to the novel “Red Collalto”, located in Susegana at the end of the Great War.
The dreams and expectations of farmers returning from the war front crash against the rising fascist movement in the hills and thundering guns. So the drama of a war veteran maimed in body and soul, the claims of the farmers, the impossible love of two young, the strong character of a countess, a master’s affection for his students and the deep faith of a woman, are the installation of a story that recounts the events that led to the granting of citizenship to the Italian family Collaltoand return of property sequestrated the state during the Great War, as the property of “enemy residents”.
The book alternates between fictional shares in historical reconstructions of events that characterized the First World War (the peasant revolt, the rising fascism, the bloody events that took place in Susegana), squares of humanity (the school, marriage, the love story between two children).
